Obituary of Elizabeth B. Girvin
Betty was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota June 14, 1927. She grew up in Minneapolis graduating from Washburn High School in 1945. She received a BS degree in Home Economics from the University of Minnesota. She married John M. Girvin June 24, 1950.
Her husband was a claims attorney for State Farm Insurance and they lived in Minneapolis MN, Grand Island and Lincoln NE, moving to Wallingford PA in 1969.
Betty was 60+ year member of P.E.O. serving as an officer in the Nebraska and Pennsylvania chapters. Her passions were raising violets and quilting. She held office in local flower societies and the National Gesdneriad Society and won numerous awards at flower shows. Betty was very active in quilting groups in her later years and received many awards for her creations. She was also an excellent sewer, knitter and maker of tapestry rugs. Betty was a woman of faith and active in her church, Crosspointe including Bible Studies.
Betty is survived by “the Minnesota Nieces” Jody Johnson, Pam Girvin, Diane Bigalke and Maureen Palashewski, and their families including 5 great grand nieces and nephews and, her brother-in-law Dr. William G. Girvin DDS (Barb) in Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years John Girvin, her parents Leo J and Lucille M Bruer, sister-in-law Rhoda Girvin and cousins.
Services will be Thursday, July 12th at 11am with visitation at 10:30 at the Granite Farms auditorium 1343 West Baltimore Pike in Media. Interment is private. Memorials may be made to Betty’s church, Crosspointe 601 S New Middletown Rd., Media PA 19063.
