Obituary of Mabel M. Collins

Mabel M. Collins, age 93, of Philadelphia, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at home surrounded by her family. Mabel was born February 22, 1927 in Northampton County, VA. Mabel was later adopted by Norman and Ceila Coston. Both sets of parents preceded her in passing. Mabel was educated in the Northampton County School system. She worked for G.L. Webster for a number of years. In 1965, Mabel relocated to Philadelphia, PA. She continued her education at opportunities Industrialization Center (O.I.C.), 1225 North Broad Street. Mabel was employed at Hahnemann Hospital and the Adam’s Mark Hotel for a number of years. She was employed domestic for Philadelphia celebrities, Mary Maston (WHAT Radio announcer) and Julius (Doc. J.) Erving. Mabel was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA, for more than 30 years. Mabel married Grant Morris and from this union God blessed them with 2 children and 8 step-children. Joseph loved and welcomed Mabel’s children from her first marriage, and Mabel loved and welcomed Joseph’s children from his first marriage. Through the years of celebrating birthdays, holiday and get-togethers we grew into a very large and loving family. Mabel’s husband Joseph Collins (lovingly known as Percy), her son Larry, step-sons Wilmer, Lionel, step-daughter Lavern, Willie Mae, sons-in-law, Richard, Howard, James, stepson-in-law, James and grandson Ronald all preceded Mabel in passing. Mabel leaves to cherish her memory, sons Anthony Morris, Thomas Morris, Norman (Sheila) Morris, step-son Joseph (Omega) Collins, daughters, Lucille Morris, Margaret Morris, Bettie Morris, Mabel Harris, Martha Morris, Linda Morris, Edith Carter, step-daughters Maruerite Dillard, Lois Ann (Butch) Murray, Valeria (Clarance) Baines, 26 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 32 great-great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. A private service will be held for the family. Interment: Mt. Peace Cemetery.
