Obituary of James H. Greiner

James H. Greiner, age 78, of Upper Providence Township, PA passed suddenly and unexpectedly on June 19, 2020 at Riddle Hospital, with his loving wife by his side. Known as “Jay” to family and “Jim” to his wife, friends and co-workers, James was born in Philadelphia on August 26, 1941 and grew up in Ridley Farms/Ridley Township. He graduated from Ridley Township High School in 1959, and from Drexel University in 1964 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. During his college years, he co-opted at Boeing Company, Ridley Park, PA where after graduation he was employed as an engineer for more than 41 years. Jim was an avid model train enthusiast and a member of both the Glenolden Toy Train Collector’s Club and the Train Collector’s Association. As a youth, he loved going to Wildwood with his family, and later to Ocean City, NJ with his wife, Barbara. He was a huge fan of Philadelphia sports, and enjoyed watching the Phillies and the Eagles play on television. His hobbies included doing Sudoku, crossword puzzles, and word games from the daily newspaper. He also loved spending time with his family. James was the son of the late James G. Greiner and Mary C. (nee Hand) Greiner. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara (nee Britt – Bell), stepdaughter Kimberly R. (Robert) England, grandchildren Thomas and Ellie England, sister Frances (Craig) Stephens, niece Andrea (John) Gillinger, and grand nephews Johnny (Ashley) Gillinger and Michael Gillinger. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00pm on Friday, June 26th at Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Ltd., Middletown (Rte. #352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp., Media, PA 19063. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, at the funeral home, immediately following visitation, officiated by Reverend James A. Lyons, Pastor at Our Lady of Charity Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s memory to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
