Obituary of Violet Woolley

Our beautiful mother and cherished Gran/Great Gran, joined our father in heaven July 22, 2020. Violet Horter Woolley (Twaddell) was born January 26, 1925 to LaFayette and Ida Twaddell. On June 21, 1946 she married Gardiner Lane Woolley and they raised four children. Violet was a devoted wife and mother who lived all but her final years in Wallingford, Pennsylvania. She worked for the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District until her retirement in 1982. Spending time with her family was the highlight of mom’s life, and she created many wonderful holiday celebrations as well as vacations in Avalon, New Jersey, a place we as a family still gather today. Mom enjoyed her walks, gardening, knitting, reading, and could bake a mean lemon meringue pie. She also often made a point in beating us in her favorite games of Rummikub, PA Turnpike, and Shanghai Rummy. Violet was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Gar, her son Mark Woolley, and her dear brother Clarence “Toby” Twaddell. Mom is survived by her children Gayle (Jim) Massingham, Robert (Denise) Woolley, and Deeann (Joe) Colligan. She is further survived by her grandchildren : Lauren Massingham, Kara Massingham, Kristen Massingham, Kate Katzman, Benjamin Woolley, Leah Colligan and Ryan Colligan; as well as, seven great grandchildren.. Violet’s family would like to thank her dear friend Elizabeth Foreaker for her constant love and support. Also thanks to Touchmark on North Prospect and ThedaCare Hospice for their care and compassion. The family will gather at Minshall Shropshire Bleyler Funeral Home, Ltd., Middletown (Rte. #352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp., Media, PA, for a private service July 30, 2020.
