Obituary of John R. Grimes

John R. Grimes, age 91, of Media, PA, formerly of Brookhaven, PA, died on March 11, 2021 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, PA.   John was a 1948 graduate of Ridley High School, where he was in the National Honor Society.  Mr. Grimes was employed at Philadelphia Electric Company for 41 years.

John was a U.S. Veteran of the National Guard.

John was a longtime member of Mount Hope United Methodist Church, Aston, PA. During his time spent in Brookhaven, John was devoted to his community as a fireman and police officer.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, photography, wood working and biking. John was talented with fixing watches and clocks.  Most of all, John cherished spending time with his family.

Husband of 61 years to the late Gertrude Grimes; brother of the late Joan Concilio; Grandfather of the late John F. Smith IV and Great-Grandfather of the late Charles Murray.

Survivors:

Daughters: Ruth (John) Smith, and Judith (Jesse) Coale

Son: John “Buck” (Cecelia) Grimes

Brother: Ray (Liz) Grimes

Grandchildren: Jennifer (Don), Michelle (Patrick), Stefanie (Charlton), Nicole (Joe), Matthew (Colleen) and Sarah (Brian)

Great-Grandchildren: William (Hali), Nathaniel, Grace, Rosemary, Michael, Samantha, AJ, Domiana, Tyler, Samuel, Noah, Bailey, and Maggie

Also survived by nieces and nephews

John enjoyed the companionship of his beloved Lois Huffines for several years.

Visitation: Wednesday, March 17^th from 10:30AM to 11:30AM at the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Ltd., Middletown (Rte. #352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp., Media, PA 19063.

Graveside Services: Wednesday, March 17^th at Noon at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
