Obituary of Alice Keener
Not only our family but the home community at Lima Estates sadly lost a generous and inspiring woman on Saturday, August 7, 2021, when Alice Fellows Keener peacefully passed away surrounded by her children.
Alice was born on October 9th, 1934, in Bryn Mawr PA. Daughter of Dr. Charles E. Fellows and Edith L. (Sloan) Fellows. Sister of Betsy (Fellows) Biedling and Virginia (Fellows) Banks. Alice was a graduate of Nether Providence High School class of 1952.
While attending Susquehanna University, she met and married in 1955, the love of her life, a naval man Dwight E. Keener of Harrisburg. They shared 52 wonderful years togeher. Alice’s love for teaching and expanding young minds lead her to attend and graduate from Cheyney State College with a degree in early childhood education in 1977. She was a teacher in the Chichester School District for over 30 years.
Her love of teaching naturally extended to many memorable moments with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Alice was also known for being very crafty with sewing, knitting, and needlepoint. She was always working on a project and was known as “Crafty Gran” by her family. Alice supported thousands with her crafts, including children, injured veterans, the homeless, along with women and families in transition.
Alice enjoyed being a part of the loving community at Lima Estates for the past 13 years, where she was active in many events and organizations, including the “Once Again Shop” and the “Samaritans Fund”.
She is survived by her three children: Dwight E. Keener Jr., Margaret (Keener) King-Silverio, Charles F. Keener Sr., along with their spouses, her 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Alice is also survived by her sister Virginia and her many nieces and nephews. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all who she interacted with and those she never met but had an impact on.
Please join family and friends in a celebration memorial service on Sunday, August 15th, 2021, at 1:00 pm at Lima Estates Theater, 411 N. Middletown Road, Media, PA 19063, with a reception to follow.
