So sorry Sharon Don and Ed were close in the army and they had some good times together and we also enjoyed your visit in Ocean City and we enjoyed that very much we love you guys I'm sorry that Don didn't call back and keep closer contact but time goes by and you take care of yourself and anytime you want to come up just give me a call and you keep in touch take care of yourself and be good talk to you later hun love you bye-bye

Ed was truly a treasure of the City of Chester and Delaware County as a whole. Countless young athletes were overjoyed to see their sports exploits and accomplishments in print the following day. I was one. Thank you Ed Gebhart. I certainly will never forget you.

Our deepest condolences to you Sharon and the entire Gebhart family. So many of our childhood memories include The Gebhart family… especially the neighbor get togethers at the Gebhart’s with food, fun, games and slide shows of all the neighborhood kids, Taking pictures on Halloween, sledding at its finest, and many more (I even got to make it into the paper at age 3… thanks Mr.Gebhart… one of the only pics I have of me at that age! but most of all, always, always such a warm smile and listening ear… even for the little ones.

I am so sorry for your loss.Always looked for his article at xmas on growing up in Chester, playing football on that xmas morning.I also played on that lot between Thurlow & Highland in the 1950's.Bringing back those memories with his story is something I hope the newspaper continues to publish.

Mr. Gebhart was our good neighbor for over 50 years. As children growing up across the street from the Gebhart's we were always welcome into his home. I will remember fondly the annual cookouts and softball games he hosted for all the neighborhood kids in his back yard. He treated everyone with kindness and respect. The thoughtful words written about our father; Dr. Richard G. Barr M.D. by Mr. Gebhart and printed in his column, "My Kind of Town" will always be hanging on my wall.

I am sure my dad and Mr. Gebhart are together with our Lord discussing St. James basketball.

Definitely appreciate the articles you wrote on my grandfather, Noah Slick Gethers. They always brought a smile to my face and made my family feel good. May you RIP Mr. Gebhart and condolences to the rest of the Gebhart family.

Ed was very supportive of the Media Oldtimers Sports Hall of Fame and provided great post Banquet Articles. He was the perfect Sports Editor for the Delaware County Times. His stories always captured the essence of the athletes and teams!

Ed certainly lived a full life.

John Edward Gebhart was my grandfather known to me as Bepop who I loved and adored very much. As a grandfather he was very loving and always showing kindness to me. There are so many things that I wish I could have known more about, but I happened to loose him at the age of just 13. Even in his older days where he could barely walk he would show up to my sporting events and my sisters birthday that was 12 days before he passed. I wish I could have shown more love and appreciation to him but I know that he knows I loved him.

Always enjoyed his articles. I wrote to him about a local man named Don Horton and his accomplishments and great treatment of people. 'Ed', took it from there and wrote a great article about Don. RIP 'ED'.

My parents were featured in the Daily Times when Ed started the All Hawaiian Advenutre! They loved the trip and made it to Hawaii with Ed over many years thus prompting my parents to buy a time share in Hawaii! They loved Ed and the many trips they made together.

Bunny and I are truly saddened to hear of the loss of our good friend Ed Gebhart. I worked with Ed at the Daily Times and found him to be among the nicest people that I had ever met. A true gentlemen and loyal friend. I enjoyed taking him with me to our St. James, "Ray Van Horn" luncheons, everyone loved him being there. I believe that he, an Honorary Member of the St. James Alumni, felt more at home at those Luncheons, than he may have with his many friends and fans from his beloved Chester High School. I do realize that nothing could really replace his loyalty to Chester High School, we kind of stole his affection by naming him an Honorary Graduate of St. James High School and more than that a "1959" graduate of St. James. GOD Rest you Ed. I will personally miss you and those monthly trips to our luncheon. Jim McNamee, Media, Pa. and Member of St. James class of 1959.

Ed Gebhart was a familiar name in our household growing up. He and my dad were friends from their Chester High School days. Ed featured my dad in the article” My Kind of Town” and several articles over the years. I remember my dad talking on the phone to Ed. We are very sorry to hear of Ed's passing. He was a wonderful person who had a gift for recognizing, remembering and sharing the special people and places that make a community a home. His nostalgic articles in the Daily Times never failed to take us all on a journey back to a better place and time. Though those times had their problems, too, Ed's description always focused on the positive.

From a personal perspective, Ed's kindness to our family will never be forgotten. Ed developed a friendship with my Dad, Johnny Podgajny, when he pitched with the Phillies. Ed would have been 8 or 9 years old when he sat on my Dad's stoop at 9th and Jeffrey Streets and waited for him to come home from Shibe Park. Dad would fill him in on the game and spend time with him. Ed never forgot that. We lost my Dad at 50 and Ed's articles would regularly recall Dad's early days and his pitching career. We always appreciated the positive memories he provided us.

Rest in Peace, Friend!!! Enjoy the good times with Dad and SO many more that you remembered and wrote about all these years.
