I’m so sorry to the Barr family on the loss of your precious mother. Your mom and my mom were best of friends for more than 60 years - from the time we were neighbors in Twin Oaks until my mom passed in 2019. I hope that our parents are reunited in heaven and picking up the friendship right where it left off. Much love and sympathy to all of you. Mrs. Barr was a beautiful, loving, caring, talented woman who will surely be missed by all who were blessed to know her.
It is so hard to put in words sometimes what a certain person means to you and your world. I find myself at a loss for words, not for the lack of love for the person, but just that there are so so many thoughts and so so much love for them. Mrs. “mom“ Barr were such a person. Her strength, kindness, humbleness, patience and love are just a few of her attributes. And personally, I truly believe that anyone that had the sheer joy of having some sort of contact with her, would agree. I noticed it as a little howarth road kid, spending probably the majority of my childhood at the Barr home , I was the grateful recipient of those attributes.
Whether it was serving up the most amazing iced tea ever!(in which mrs. Barr so graciously shared her recipe) Or if it was her caring spirit when she threw your snow pants in the dryer after hours of playing in the snow, And then whipping up some hot chocolate to warm us up. Sleepovers, hosting parties, fixing boo-boos, church on Sunday, pizzelles at Christmas time(the best EVER) summers at the shore.. whatever it was, Mrs. Barr, did everything with grace. And patience… lots of patience! as an adult,I look back, there were times that any other person would probably not have let me back in their house!
I tried, Kathleen, I tried to teach you how to fly off the couch! and you’ve learned how to fly, that part was mostly your mama. (The two black eyes for my efforts where the fruits of our labor! ) sliding down the stairs in our sleeping bags and consequently smashing into the front door, yeah.. sorry for those times mom Barr!!
And yet… With all the memories flooding my heart, there is this beacon…Mrs. Barr, was a humble, gracious beautiful woman who, as far as I can remember, never raised her voice in anger or frustration at us. To me , a shining example of what a humble, dedicated wife, mother, and strong woman of faith looks like. And those are just some of the “hats” that mom Barr wore.
The epistle to the Galatians talks about the fruits of the spirit. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control… She definitely lived out the fruits of the Spirit .
I don’t know if she will ever know the profound effect she had on my life. I am eternally grateful for her love and kindness.
And to the precious Barr children…thank you for sharing your amazing Mom with us.
Mom Barr…. I love you and thank you so much for everything.
Oh I how I will miss your hearty laugh, you gazing over your glasses , your listening ear and your warm, loving, beautiful smile…. Rest in eternal peace
It’s not goodbye… it’s I’ll see you soon.. <3
Mom Bart was a second Mother to me for decades. She was the best grandma to her grandchildren. She was a loving Mother to her 7 kids and Dolores was a special woman and wife to her great husband Doc Barr. She will be missed by many for the person she was and the love she shared. Rest in peace!! Michael Martin Sr
