Obituary of Joan M. Werc

Joan M. (Boylan) Werc, “Joanusia” age 82, of Philadelphia, PA, died on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at her daughter’s home in Middletown Twp., Media, PA.

Joan was a graduate of John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School.  She graduated from Antioch University with her BS in elementary education. Joan was a devoted teacher at Richard R. Wright Elementary School in the Philadelphia School District.

Joan was a devoted parishioner of St. Albert the Great Church, Huntingdon Valley, PA.

Joan was a sweet, caring, compassionate, loving wife, mother, sister and friend.

Joan and her late husband Kaz had a beautiful love story. The two were inseparable and quite the team from the moment they met.  Joan loved traveling, Ireland and Tahiti were a couple of her favorites.  She loved taking walks with Kaz and enjoying their time at concerts at the Kimmel Center and drinking Irish coffee on Sunday mornings.

Joanie was known for her annual Christmas Eve (Wigilia) celebration and hosting so graciously.  Special foods were made and white lightening punch was a staple that night.  Joanie hosted many other holidays and events like Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, Easter and St. Patrick's Day to name a few.

She had a love for animals and made many contributions for different organizations.

Most of all, Joanie cherished spending time with her family and spoiling her children and grandchildren. She was known to her grandkids as Babcia. One of her favorite things to do was cooking and baking for her family and teaching her kids and grandkids how to bake.  One of her favorite dishes was shrimp creole and her cheesecake cupcakes were a crowd pleaser at every family function.
