Obituary of Jeanette G. Rieck

Jeanette G. Rieck, 87, from Newtown Square, PA ,passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at the Wayne Center Nursing Home in Wayne, PA. Born the seventh of ten children to James K. “Kenner” and Breman (Wood) Griffith, Jeanette grew up in Alum Creek, West Virginia, before graduating high school and working for Union Carbide. There, she met her husband, Robert E. Rieck and they moved to Lake Charles Louisiana and Pittsburgh, PA, before eventually settling down in Newtown Square, PA, where they raised their son, Derek. Jeanette worked at Penn State for over 30 Years, where she flourished as an administrative assistant to the Dean of Academic Affairs and where she found her Penn State family who she dearly loved. She also had a great love of ice hockey and her Philadelphia Flyers, cheering them on every game and nervously doing dishes if the game was too close. Among other things, Jeanette was an avid reader and talented cross stitcher who loved music, especially Elvis. You would often find her whistling to her favorite songs in the kitchen while cooking some good old southern dishes as she always stayed very connected to her West Virginian roots. Most importantly, Jeanette will be remembered as a devoted Wife, Mother and Nana who was both equal parts feisty and funny, loyal and compassionate who always had time to listen. She also enjoyed spending time with her beloved Siblings, especially during West Virginia quilt hops with her sisters. Whenever they were together they nearly always broke out into singing songs and playing the piano. She valued her family over everything and she will be dearly missed. Jeanette was preceded in death by her siblings: Betty Griffith Riling, Faye Griffith Yerrid, Kenny Griffith, Patty Griffith Dimock, Jewell Griffith Haddad  and Doug Griffith. She leaves behind her husband, Robert E. Rieck, son, Derek Rieck (Julie); grandchildren, Kylie and Alex Rieck, as well as her siblings, Phyllis Griffith, Carley Means (Dale) and Jack Griffith (Locksley), sister-in-law, Karen Rieck and brother-in-law, Richard Rieck (Kay) and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friday, January 12th from 10:00-10:45AM at the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte. #352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp., Media, PA 19063.

Memorial Service: Friday, January 12th at 11:00AM at the funeral home.

Interment: Private.
