Obituary of Catherine R. Schiazza

Catherine R. (Viviani) Schiazza, age 88, of Media, PA, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2024 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 21, 1935 in South Philadelphia to Frank and Philomena Viviani. She graduated from Notre Dame De Lourdes High School before beginning a career as an x-ray technician. In 1981, Nick and Catherine opened CN Skate Palace in Aston, PA, Catherine was the “C”.

Catherine was married to Nicholas Schiazza in 1955, until his passing in 1982. She was a loving mother who enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. She resided in Yeadon, PA until 1972 when she moved to Wallingford, PA with her family. In 2013, she moved to the Lima Estates Retirement Community in Media where she enjoyed life until her passing.

She loved attending family functions, could not wait to tell you a joke, and was always collecting soda can tabs for Ronald McDonald House.  She enjoyed watching her family grow, was proud of all of her children, loved her grandchildren, and was quick to tell you how many great-grandchildren she had. Besides her family, her passion was knitting. She rarely went anywhere without her knitting bag and made countless hats, sweaters and blankets for family and friends. She began a knitting club called the Nifty Knitters at Lima Estates and she was especially proud of the many items made and donated by the knitting club to veterans and various other associations that needed help. She was also an avid watcher of Jeopardy.

Daughter of the late Francis and Philomena Viviani; Wife of the late Nicholas Schiazza; Sister of the late Frank Viviani.

Survivors:

She is survived by her 4 children, Nick Schiazza (Kathy), Frank Schiazza (Betsy), Mary Florio (Michael) and Louis Schiazza (Helen), 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and her many friends at Lima Estates.

Visitation: Tuesday, April 9th from 9:30AM- 10:45AM at the Church of St. Mary Magdalen Parish, 2400 N. Providence Rd., Media, PA 19063.

Funeral Mass: Tuesday, April 9th at 11:00AM at the Church of St. Mary Magdalen Parish.

Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.
