Condolences
On behalf of the Officers and Members of the Mid-Atlantic Base of the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc., please accept our condolences on the loss of your brother, father, grandfather and friend. "Smitty" was a dear friend and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in this time of sorrow.
Where do we start and how can we possibly begin to praise you in this small space? We have a lifetime's worth of OUTSTANDING lessons and cherishable memories from your loving heart. It is no secret that you were always a perfect gentleman and were loved by many people nationwide. Thank you for being such an impeccable role model to look up to and follow. We can't thank you enough for your wisdom and guidance and we are all extremely proud to be your children and grandchildren. You will be forever loved and never forgotten! ?
Thank you for the proud way you served our nation.
Mr Smith is a loved man who has left a legacy of honor and integrity. Most of what I know of him is from his grandson Joshua, who has never ceased to express his love and admiration for his grandfather.
He will be missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this very difficult season of life.
Uncle Hugh, we will miss you at the King parties, especially Christmas Eve.
Another shipmate on "eternal Patrol"
Rest easy my friend you have earned it. We will miss you dearly, as your wisdom was always sought.
I never had the pleasure to meet Mr. Smith but as a vet and a Masonic Brother I wish to express my sorrow for your loss.
My Love and Sympathy to Patty, Debbie, Josh & Becky.
It was an honor to have been his friend and hear all his stories about an outstanding life. One of my favorites was how he met his wife on leave in Philadelphia at a club where “The Nat King Cole Trio” was playing or how he has been going to the Town House Restaurant since 1957, and many, many more.
I will miss his company but I know my life was richer to have known him and I will keep him near in my heart.
Love Debbie Timblin
Hugh:
It was a good long life.
Enjoyed knowing you and sharing some times with you.
Funny, how we always thought the good times would always last.
We will all miss you constant smile.
George was my boss at Mare Island in 1953. We served on the Redfish and Caiman at different times. We had some great conversations at the 2010 reunion in Reno and we talked about shipmates of almost 60 years earlier. What a great memory he had. He was a true patriot of The Greatest Generation. I'll miss George.
