Wow, What a great person all around. He made a challenging job fun and we always knew Joe had our backs and truly cared about everyone’s success.
Not many people like Joe in this world that have the full package - intelligence, passion and personality
Love the guy and he’ll be greatly missed

Wow you are/were loved by so many and you leave a legacy of smiles and laughter in your wake. It’s hard to say the name Joe Smagala without a huge smile and a favorite story coming to mind. I worked with Joe for many years at Glory. In my long career with various companies he was by far and away the best “boss” I ever worked for/with. He will be so missed by so many.
How do you put 30+ years of friendship into words?
Cathy, Amy and Jenni, I write this brokenhearted with a prayer that the memories that you have to cherish will always bring you comfort when you need it the most.. Joe though we always call each other by our last names, so Smagala, was one of the most genuine people I have ever been blessed to know, let alone work for, and share a special friendship. Joe had a style all his own, and you always knew where you stood with him whether it be in business or personal situations.. Joe turned every event into the best party, and I have so many memories floating around in my thoughts right now, giggling at a good majority of them. He was something else! I feel like I was a part of your family because Joe was always talking about Amy and Jenni, and we enjoyed celebrating your milestones right along with you. Cathy, your husband loved you so much, and whenever we talked about relationships, yours was always the example that he used. Smagala had a way of turning the darkest days into the brightest days, and every day of life was a day to just enjoy for what it was. I will carry these wonderful memories, and the sound of Smagala’s voice saying “this is my gig” every day of my life. So I once again will raise my Heineken, and drink a toast to a life incredibly well lived.
As I would always say, "How's my Joe doing today" each time we spoke. Joe interviewed and hired me 22 years ago beginning with DeLaRue and then rehired me with Glory USA. Joe has that dynamic personality and would say it like it is. Good ole Philly guy true at heart! Aside from my husband, Joe was my biggest cheerleader and helped me become the successful sales person that I am today. Outside of work we both have a passion for boating and the love of our fur babies!
I wish I had more time to share all the funny Joe stories that I will always cherish and smile about. Joe is and was the life of the party and will be truly missed.
Amy, Jenni and Cathy, please know how much we all loved and adored Joe. You have my deepest condolences.
With much love,
Deb Bongiorni
Cathy, Amy, and Jenn,
My condolences to you all! I worked with Joe for many years and have so many stories. Lets just say he had the perfect formula for working hard and playing hard. He was my friend and he will be missed. Rest peacefully Joe!

Joe, my friend. How I will miss you and the laughter and joy you provided me during our working years together as well as our chats about nothing in particular well after our working years ended.
Things you have taught me:
French yogurt must be different from US yogurt. US Yogurt does NOT help ease the discomfort of sunburn!. It in fact has the opposite affect. The lovely French lady that suggested it was so very sincere in her desire to assist.
Don't leave the keys in the car with the engine running and doors locked
Code Word: "How's Dad today"?
You made my world brighter and less serious. For this I can't thank you enough. I will think of you often and keep those endless giggles you created close to my heart. Rest in peace my friend.

We made Joe and Cathy's glasses for many years. When ever Joe came into the store he always had a smile and his yellow lab in the car. He was a great guy and will not be forgotten whenever we see Jen with our Golden Retriever. Paul & Debbie Sherwood
I am so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. My deepest sympathy to Cathy, Amy, and Jenn. Joe was a wonderful guy! He always had a smile on his face. Rest in Peace Joe (don't get into too much trouble up there with Neil!)
Cathy, Amy and Jenn my prayers and condolences are with you on the passing of One amazing man. Joe and I go back to 1985 when we both started at Wang and shared many long talks over a few beers and God Fathers on many business trips. We always had lots of fun at Chairman’s Club with Joe and Cathy in some great locations around the world and the fun and laughs never stopped. Joe had a great gift conversation on any topic and a sense of humor bar none. He always talked about his twins Amy and Jenn and their goal of becoming Veterinarians and how proud he was when they accomplished it.
Rest in Peace my friend.
Cathy, Amy and Jenn Norm and I am shocked to read this. My God what an amazing friend he was to Norm and I. So grateful for the friendship and actual love we shared. We send our heartfelt thoughts and prayers for strength and peace that only our Lord can provide.
I write this condolence with a tear in my eye for a guy who I considered to be a great mentor and friend. I met Joe 40 years ago when he was hired to lead sales for Tele-Saver a discount phone company, then he went to Wang Laboratories and brought me along the rest is history.
Joe, achieved the highest level of accomplishment wherever he went, there are countless sale professionals who can say they owe their successful careers as a result of Joe's leadership. He could give you hell then make you feel like you're the best all within a sentence a rare gift.
He cherished is long weekends on his boat on the North East River with his loving Wife Cathy and his girls and of coarse his labs. Above all of his accomplishments he was most proud of his girls the twins Amy and Jenni... the Doctors.
Rest in Peace Joe, may God be with you and comfort your love ones!
We Love You!
