Dorothy Gulden Thompson, 90, of Glen Mills and formerly of Media, PA passed away peacefully on February 15th. She was born May 4, 1932 in Camp Hill, PA, and was the daughter of the late Howard Leroy Gulden and Mary Stover Gulden. Dorothy is survived by her husband Richard Lee Thompson, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage and children, Scott R. Thompson (Maureen) of Downingtown, Lynn T. Anderson (Kenneth) of Downingtown, Robert L. Thompson (Christine) of Newark, DE, and Beth T. Dougherty (Timothy) of West Chester, along with her ten grandchildren – Kristin O’Donoghue (Michael); Kevin and Kyle Anderson; Megan, Steven, Michael and Erin Thompson; Emily and Katie Thompson; Jennifer Dougherty and one great-grandchild – Aidan O’Donoghue. She was preceded in death by her sister Kathryn Reinecker and brothers Robert and Richard Gulden.
“Dot” as she was affectionately referred to, grew up in Camp Hill, PA, and after graduating from high school, worked at the Naval Supply Depot in Mechanicsburg, PA. This is where she met her future husband and they eventually settled in Media, PA to raise their family. She was a longtime member of Reformation Lutheran Church, Media, and then Calvary Lutheran Church, West Chester in more recent years. She actively delivered Meals on Wheels to the homebound every other Friday for close to fifty years. In her later years, she thoroughly enjoyed working at Bevan’s Candy Shop and cherished the friendships of her caring coworkers.
One of her favorite past times was attending countless sporting events, including those of her children throughout their middle school, high school and college careers and then those of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, gardening and watching the birds that she so faithfully fed. Dorothy was a deeply loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend….she was simply the best! Her heart and home were always open to anyone and everyone and her thoughtfulness was evident in everything she did. She will be deeply missed by all of those who were lucky enough to know and love her.
You are invited to visit with her family and friends on Saturday, March 11th from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon at Calvary Lutheran Church – 730 S. New Street, West Chester, PA. Her memorial service will immediately follow visitation at the church. Burial will be private.
